The Story of the Cowboy Boot Purses:
When the combination of a creative spirit, a love for polished stones, and an abundance of old used cowboy boots comes together, the outcome is, well, Simply Lovely. This is what Leslie Chapman has discovered. As the mother of four grown children and the wife of a cattle rancher, one thing that is always in abundance around the Chapman home is old cowboy boots. Normally, these boots would have just been thrown out or pushed back in a closet somewhere collecting dust; however, with a little inspiration, Leslie has created a unique business by turning these vintage boots into trendy leather handbags.
It may be hard to imagine how dusty old cowboy boots can be turned into a purse, let alone one that is attractive and fashionable. Nonetheless, it can be done! Leslie recycles worn boots by using the top portion to make a purse. Thankfully, the jeans worn by the cowboys over their boots keeps the tops protected and polished. Distinguished by the unique stitching and color, the cowboy boot purse has a rugged look, yet it is contemporary in style. To make a strap for this purse, Leslie hand picks polished semi-precious stones from her large collection. Each stone is specifically chosen to accent the boot and complement the colors in the intricate stitching detail. The characteristic that makes this handle truly unique is that it can be removed from the purse and worn as a necklace. Leslie also makes matching bracelets upon request to complete the jewelry set.
Though these cowboy boot purses are a highly fashionable accessory, one of their distinguishing features is truly a reflection of the cowboy heritage from centuries past. Just as a cowboy firebrands each of his cattle with their own individual number and their identifying symbol, Leslie brands every purse that is made with a number and the Double C Bar Ranch Brand. This process not only preserves a small part of the ranching heritage, but it also creates a tracking system of every purse that is made and sold.
These Cowboy Boot Purses, which started as a hobby back in January of 2006, have not only become a business for Leslie, but a passion as well. With each purse that she designs comes new ideas and inspirations for ways of adding more eye appeal and style to the next one. Leslie has now made over 200 purses which have been sold in several states all around the country.
By simply being herself, Leslie has built a business strategy grounded on excellent customer service. She personally guarantees the quality of each purse she sells. This, coupled with taking custom orders for purses, has allowed Leslie to build a relationship with each of her customers. It is this strategy that has enabled Leslie to be successful thus far. As these purses have truly become Leslie’s passion, she looks forward to making more and continuing to incorporate new ideas and inspirations along the way!
